HIV Testing, Treatment and Adherence Component, Niassa, Mozambique
Concern America, Santa Ana California
Contact: John Straw, Executive Director
Endorsement: Sister Sandra Williams, CSJ
Funding: $10,000 (one time grant)
This component currently serves 44 communities with a total population of 22,000 people. Most of the communities are extremely isolated, have no road access and can only be reached on foot or by boat. Many people have to travel two to four days each month to receive their medication. The component will provide treatment and services to people known to be HIV positive including nutritional and education support so more people will qualify to receive the antiretroviral therapy, which can be very toxic to the body. Extensive HIV testing throughout the region will also be provided in collaboration with the local government health department.

The community donations are not regular and often families are unable to help others in need as they struggle to cater to their own needs.
